BLACK DAY

On February 14, 2019, India faced one of its most devastating terrorist attacks when a suicide bomber targeted a convoy of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. This tragic event resulted in the loss of 40 brave soldiers, marking February 14 as a 'Black Day' in India's history.

**The Pulwama Attack: A Brief Overview**

On that fateful day, a convoy of 78 vehicles was transporting approximately 2,500 CRPF personnel from Jammu to Srinagar. As the convoy reached Lethpora near Awantipora, a car laden with explosives, driven by 20-year-old Adil Ahmad Dar—a local resident who had joined the Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in 2018—rammed into one of the buses, causing a massive explosion. The impact was catastrophic, leading to the immediate death of 40 CRPF personnel and leaving many others critically injured.

**Nation's Response and Aftermath**

The Pulwama attack elicited widespread outrage and grief across the nation. Citizens expressed solidarity with the bereaved families through candlelight vigils, social media tributes, and nationwide memorials. The Indian government condemned the attack, attributing it to JeM and its leader, Masood Azhar, who operates from Pakistani soil. In response, on February 26, 2019, the Indian Air Force conducted airstrikes on JeM's training camps in Balakot, Pakistan, marking a significant escalation in India's counter-terrorism efforts.

**Commemorating the Martyrs**

Each year, February 14 is observed as a 'Black Day' to honor the sacrifice of the Pulwama martyrs and to reaffirm the nation's commitment to combating terrorism. Memorial events are held nationwide, and citizens pay their respects to the fallen heroes, ensuring that their bravery and dedication are never forgotten. citeturn0search0

**A Call for Unity and Vigilance**

The Pulwama attack serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat of terrorism and the need for unwavering vigilance. It underscores the importance of national unity and the collective resolve to uphold the values of peace and security. As we remember the events of February 14, 2019, we honor the courage of our soldiers and reaffirm our commitment to a safer and more secure nation.

In the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, "I pay homage to the brave heroes who were martyred in Pulwama. Their service and sacrifice for our nation will always be remembered."

Let us continue to honor their memory by standing united against the forces that seek to disrupt our peace and harmony.
